Villacarriedo is situated in the heart of Cantabria, forming part of denominated Pasiego´s Mounts; it contains many beautiful houses and cultural patrimony. The Church of S. Martin, built in 1726, is an example of "montañesa" architecture; close to it you can find P.P. Escolapios School, wich was the first school in Cantabria, ordered by a carredano emigrant to Andalucia who wanted that the people from Villacarriedo had a free education. During many years this school was one of the most important ones in Spain. You will discover as well, the golden stone showpiece of "El Palacio de Soñanes" probably the hugest and monumental palace of Cantabria. It was recovered and turned hotel in 2001.
